Mandatory Sanitary Notification (NSO) at DIGEMID: Requirements for Marketing Cosmetics in Peru

Selling cosmetics without an NSO sanitary code exposes your brand to seizures and fines. Learn how the regulatory framework operates in Peru.

What is the Mandatory Sanitary Notification (NSO) and why is it essential?

In Peru and across the Andean Community member states, cosmetic products are governed by Decision 833. The authorization required for legal manufacturing and commercialization is the Mandatory Sanitary Notification (NSO).

Having an NSO code protects your business from penalties and is required by pharmacies, retail chains, clinics, and major e-commerce platforms.

Technical documentation required by DIGEMID

To obtain an NSO code through Peru’s Foreign Trade Single Window (VUCE), the dossier must be endorsed by a licensed Pharmaceutical Chemist and contain:

  • Complete qualitative and quantitative formula in international INCI nomenclature.
  • Organoleptic, physicochemical, and microbiological specifications of the finished product.
  • Primary and secondary label artwork compliant with Andean regulations.
  • Stability data and substantiation of cosmetic claims.
